FCCLA
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
Any student currently enrolled, or that have been previously enrolled in at least one credit of an FCS course, is eligible to participate in FCCLA. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace.
HHS FCCLA offers a variety of activities to participate in throughout the year. Members are required to participate in monthly meetings.
Fall Semester Activities
Fall Leadership Workshops - Students travel to various schools and participate in leadership workshops. They learn how to become a better leader, how to spread the word about FCCLA, and how to better themselves.
Peer Education - The training is an opportunity to be a part of the Texas movement of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapters that are “taking on” one of five program areas and becoming certified FCCLA Peer Educators.
Spring Semester Activities
Region Meeting - During the Region Meeting students may participate in a variety of events. They may compete in STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition), which are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. They may also compete in FCSA’s or participate by helping run the meeting.
State Meeting - If the STAR Event teams advance past the Region Meeting, they will compete at the State level in Dallas. This is a three day meeting where we will attend general sessions and other informative meetings.
Summer Activities
Summer Summits - These meetings help us to prepare the upcoming school year, and provide students a way to network and collaborate.
National Leadership Meeting - If the STAR Event teams advance past State Meeting, they will compete at the National level (location varies). This is a week long meeting where students will go on tours around the city they are visiting, network with students from across the nation, and compete for gold, silver or bronze metals.
